A Litigation Case
Involving Reinsurance
A major
Japanese insurance company, represented by a large New
York law firm, required a team of interpreters for
deposition preparation sessions and depositions of key
witnesses, including the previous company President.
This was a prominent case concerning reinsurance,
alleging accounting fraud and malpractice by a large
U.S. accounting firm. The leading trial attorney
expressly instructed Tribeca Translations to provide
only the best interpreters in the business. We flew in
9 translators from around the U.S. to cover a total of
104 days of deposition preparation sessions and 39 days
of depositions in a 4 month period. One of Tribeca
Translations’ principals, a Japanese interpreter
herself, was the lead interpreter and was responsible
for briefing and guiding the interpreters, maintaining a
glossary of terminologies, and managing the interpreting
schedule.
In preparing
for trial, the client then needed all of their
previously translated documents to be certified and
submitted to the adversary. Tribeca Translations next
assembled a team of translators specializing
in accounting and/or insurance to proofread and edit
existing Japanese to English translations to a
certifiable
quality. Upon submission of the certified translations
to the adversary, Tribeca Translations engaged in
discussions and negotiations with the
adversary’s
lead
translator to agree on translations to be used as
“official translations” at trial. In just 2 months, we
certified and produced
over
9,000 pages of
“official translations” for use at the trial.
Our client
went on to win a $100 million punitive damage award.
